Over the last five years, Prevention Point Pittsburgh has grown from 5 staff members to 14 to match the growing need for our services, and we need help getting our physical space to match our organizational growth. PPP has three office spaces across two buildings with little room for supply storage. We are moving to the first floor of the Bloomcraft Building in North Oakland (downstairs from two of our current offices) that will give us ample space to grow our staff, our ability to store our life-saving supplies, and has the potential for us to grow our programming as well. This space will be ADA accessible, allowing us to park our outreach vans on site instead of leasing parking down the street, and a loading dock to make deliveries much easier on staff. This new space was operated as a warehouse, and we need your help to fund the necessary renovations to make this a workable space. We are looking to raise $200,000, and your donation is essential in creating PPP’s new home.
A huge improvement with the renovations will be the streamlined process of deliveries.
Prevention Point Pittsburgh regularly gets large deliveries of supplies to keep up with the demand for our services. Currently, when deliveries are made to PPP (which can be up to 4 pallets at once), staff has to load their cars with supplies, drive down to the back of our admin building, unload supplies down a makeshift slide to the basement where supplies are then taken into our locked storage area. Part of the renovations include paving the gravel driveway and updating the garage space. This will give delivery trucks access to the back of the building so staff will no longer have to move supplies in their personal vehicles, and with the updated garage, PPP will be able to park our vans on site (instead of leasing spaces down the street), creating a streamlined delivery process. With our current setup our larger deliveries can take up to 5 hours to unload, depending on number of pallets and staff available to help with deliveries. We only have a staff of 14, with 5 staff out at sites five days a week.
Other renovations include building 20 work spaces so all staff are able to work under one roof, as well having the room to add new staff members, the creation of two meetings rooms, a room dedicated to our naloxone mailing project, adding a kitchenette, updating the HVAC and electrical systems, insulating walls, updating windows, finishing floors, and painting the space.
