I contracted Hepatitis C about nine years ago through shared needles. I can only pray that I did not spread the
virus before I found Prevention Point. I am certain, however, that once I became a client and had access to the
education and materials distributed by this organization, that I did everything in my power to stop the spread of
Hepatitis C and other life-threatening viruses like HIV.
I just began a yearlong treatment of interferon to treat my Hepatitis C. It is not easy, but I am grateful that I am one of the lucky ones with health insurance that is able to receive medical help. My life for the next year, however, will revolve around this treatment, and my sincerest hope is that others may avoid having to go through it....if they are lucky enough to get clean and receive it!
Do I think the world would be a better place without drugs? Of course. Do I wish for everyone the gift of recovery and a life clean and sober? Absolutely! Do I think that is
going to happen anytime soon? I sincerely doubt it. In the meantime, I will remain eternally grateful to Prevention Point Pittsburgh. This is who I give credit to for saving my friends from contracting Hep(atitis) C, saving my friends from overdose, and saving me from contracting HIV.
I am one of the lucky ones to have broken the vicious cycle of addiction. I hope recovery for all. In the meantime, I hope for a world where using addicts can receive the compassion and tools that they need to have a chance at feeling human. Perhaps then, the cycle can be broken.
Thanks for everything, especially my life!
